Każde dzieło sztuki zawiera przekaz, który zwykle jest wieloaspektowy, a szukanie kontekstów i ścieżek interpretacyjnych to wyzwanie stawiane przez twórcę widzowi. Zaszyfrowane w kodzie kompozycji informacje o artyście, jego stanie ducha, emocjach i przeżyciach, można zrozumieć analizując środki artystycznego wyrazu, takie jak linia, walor, zestawienie barw, plam i płaszczyzn, ich wzajemne relacje, ekspresję, głębię i kontekst. Ten wymagający język sztuki jest często jedynym sposobem na wartościową komunikację z drugim człowiekiem.

Chociaż relacja na głębszym poziomie z samym sobą, z pominięciem odbiorcy, może wydawać się wystarczająca, to przy podejmowaniu takiego samotnego działania pojawia się pewne poczucie zagubienia. Nadany przez artystę przekaz, żeby miał sens, musi do kogoś trafić – dlatego niezbędny jest widz, odbiorca, interpretator, jako ogniwo procesu twórczego. Bez niego sztuka byłaby tylko samotnym zmaganiem, które prędzej czy później mogłoby zgubić artystę w jednej uporczywej drodze autoanalizy. Najlepiej, gdy odbiorców jest wielu – świadomych swojego wewnętrznego świata, otwartych na nowość, inność, nierzadko też dziwność drugiego człowieka, rzucających twórcy światło na nowe ścieżki rozwoju. Odbiorcy, tak samo jak twórcy, powinni być inteligentni i pełni pasji, krytyczni i wrażliwi. Zarówno tworzenie, jak i odbiór sztuki wymaga również odwagi, bo poza przyjemnym estetycznym wymiarem, w każdym wytworze kryje się drugie dno pełne intensywnych i często sprzecznych emocji. Świadomość istnienia tej głębi jest podstawą udziału w intelektualnej, zmysłowej i duchowej relacji, w której artysta i odbiorca komunikują się za pośrednictwem dzieła.

Odbiorca w pewnym sensie jest również twórcą. Tworzy nowe interpretacje, konteksty, budzi własny wachlarz emocji. Tak samo jak autor dzieła – tworzy coś pięknego w swoim wnętrzu, czego inne osoby nigdy nie będą w stanie w pełni poznać. To właśnie ten nieujawniony świat przeżyć, osobisty, własny, niezmącony, w którym porusza się artysta podczas procesu twórczego i odbiorca – gdy pozwala sobie na głęboką interpretację dzieła, jest w moim odczuciu najpiękniejszym aspektem sztuki.

Świat wewnętrzny autora jest odbiciem świata zewnętrznego, to subiektywne zwierciadło zdarzeń pełne emocji, uczuć i doznań. Dzieło stanowi syntetyczny, daleko przetworzony obraz, ale złożony z autentycznych komponentów. Wpuszczenie odbiorcy w ten prywatny świat przemyśleń oraz intuicyjnych działań, jest z założenia dla obu stron wartościowy i rozwijający. Dla artysty konfrontacja odbiorcy z dziełem jest szczególnie istotnym momentem w procesie twórczym. Niekiedy rozmowa na temat wytworów i uwagi osób, również tych, które niekoniecznie znają się na sztuce, ale są wrażliwe, mają bardzo wartościowy wkład w dalszy rozwój twórczości. Czasem jedno słowo lub zdanie wypowiedziane przez kogoś na temat dzieła, niespodziewane, nowe, nieznane w tym kontekście, gdy zostaje poddane analizie, buduje ciekawy nowy wymiar, możliwy do zgłębiania latami w procesie tworzenia.

Artysta musi poszukiwać. Głębokość przeżyć i przemyśleń egzystencjalnych niejednokrotnie przekłada się na jakość sztuki. Kiedy mówimy o wartości sztuki, mamy na myśli właśnie ten szczery kontakt artysty z własnym wnętrzem i jego przełożenie na oryginalną formę, przemyślane rozwiązania technologiczne, które niejako nasuwają się same w procesie ciągłego poszukiwania najlepszej formy wyrazu. Wszystko to wymaga pełnego zaangażowania w cały proces twórczy. Samo twórcze działanie nie jest jedynie procesem intelektualnym połączonym z rozwojem manualnych umiejętności. Często działamy intuicyjnie, nawykowo, spontanicznie lub na przekór sobie, pod wpływem chwilowych emocji i myśli. To czyni sztukę każdego z artystów tak niepowtarzalną i jednostkową – te momenty, kiedy oddajemy władzę nad procesem twórczym najgłębszym warstwom psychiki.

Ludzie w obliczu sztuki ujawniają swoją własną naturę – zarówno twórca jak i odbiorca musi być w tej relacji autentyczny. Każda sztuczność jest łatwa do wyłapania i tak kontrastująca z istotą sztuki, że wręcz może ujawnić prawdziwą ludzką „brzydotę”, będącą wszystkimi zachowaniami mającymi na celu ukrycie naszego wewnętrznego piękna. Ten punkt widzenia pomaga w zrozumieniu sztuki, jako drogi do prawdy.

Every work of art contains a message, usually multifaceted, and the search for contexts and ways of interpretation is a challenge that the creator poses to the viewer. The information about the artist, his or her state of mind, emotions and experiences, hidden in the code of the composition, can be understood by analysing the means of artistic expression, such as line, value, the juxtaposition of colours, stains and planes, their interrelationship, expression, depth and context. This challenging language of art is often the only way to communicate meaningfully with another person.

Although it may seem sufficient to relate to oneself on a deeper level, excluding the viewer, there is a certain sense of loss in undertaking such a solitary act. To be meaningful, the artist’s message must reach someone – hence the essential presence of the viewer, the receiver, the interpreter, as a link in the creative process. Without them, art would be nothing but a lonely struggle which, sooner or later, could destroy the artist in a single, persistent path of self-analysis. It is best if there are many viewers – aware of their inner world, open to the new, to the different, and often to the strangeness of the other, which opens up new possibilities of development for the artist. The recipient, like the creator, should be intelligent and passionate, critical and sensitive. Both the creation and the reception of art require courage, because beyond the pleasing aesthetic dimension there is a second depth hidden in every creation, full of intense and often contradictory emotions. Awareness of this depth is the basis for participation in an intellectual, sensual and spiritual relationship in which the artist and the viewer communicate through the work of art.

In a sense, the viewers are also the creators. They create new interpretations, contexts and their own range of emotions. Like the author of the work, they create something beautiful within themselves that others can never fully know. It is this undisclosed world of experience, personal and unadulterated, in which the artist moves during the creative process, and in which the viewers – if they allow themselves to interpret the work in a profound way – move, that I believe is the most beautiful aspect of art.

The author’s inner world is a reflection of the outer world, a subjective mirror of events, full of emotions, feelings and sensations. The work is a synthetic, highly processed image, but made up of authentic components. To let the viewer into this private world of reflections and intuitive actions is valuable and evolving for both parties. For the artist, the viewer’s confrontation with the work is a particularly important moment in the creative process. Sometimes talking about the work and hearing comments from people, including those who are not necessarily familiar with art but who are sensitive, can make a very valuable contribution to the further development of the work. Other times a word or a phrase, unexpected, new, unfamiliar in a given context, when analysed, builds up an interesting new dimension that can be explored for years in the creative process.

The artist must search. The quality of art is frequently affected by the depth of the artist’s experience and his or her existential thoughts. When we talk about the value of art, what we have in mind is the artist’s sincere contact with his or her inner self and its expression in an original form, well thought-out technical solutions that emerge spontaneously in the process of the constant search for the best form of expression. All this requires a total commitment to the whole creative process. Creative activity itself is not just an intellectual process combined with the development of manual skills. We often act intuitively, habitually, spontaneously or in spite of ourselves, under the influence of momentary emotions and thoughts. What makes each artist’s work so unique and individual are those moments when we give power over the creative process to the deepest layers of the psyche.

People reveal their own nature in the face of art – both the creator and the viewer must be authentic in this relationship. Any kind of artificiality is easy to recognise. It contrasts with the essence of art, so that it can even reveal the true human “ugliness”, which is all the behaviour aimed at hiding our inner beauty. This view helps to understand art as a journey towards truth.
